Adsense Adds “Advertise on This Site” Option
Google has added “Advertise on this site” feature to their adsense program. The idea is that if you have quality content which is relevant for a certain advertiser they can bid on placing an ad on your page.
In a way this is another attempt to break into current competitor’s models and change the “contextual” idea into a more direct form of advertising. However, I can already see many problems with the concept, for example if I get a person to sign up with Adwords due to their wish to advertise on my site, there is no referral fee, or any tracking system in tact. Another problem is that after all we are talking Google here and many publishers have lost their trust in the giant…
From the official Google help page:
With Onsite Advertiser Sign-up, a new feature of AdSense, your AdSense ad units will display an ‘Advertise on this site’ link that takes interested advertisers to a page which you can tailor for your business. On this page they can see your details about your site and the Google AdWords program. Advertisers who sign up for AdWords through this landing page will create an ad automatically targeted to your site, and your site alone. And more advertisers competing to display ads on your site means more revenue for you.
The program is going live in two weeks, and all publishers are enrolled by default. However, it is noted that if you’d prefer not to participate in Onsite Advertiser Sign-up, you can opt out before it starts by visiting the My Account tab.
