AOL targets online comparison travel shopping
America Online is teaming with Kayak Software to create an online travel search site in a bid to offer consumers one-stop shopping, but some observers question whether the goal is attainable.
“Search is a core paradigm of the Internet,” Jonathan Miller, AOL’s chief executive said at an online travel conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The companies have a multiyear deal for an as yet unnamed online travel site that will launch in 2005. The project fits AOL’s strategy of using its community-based features such as message boards to drive commerce, Miller said.
