Google Base Screenshots and Thoughts

by Gilad on October 25th, 2005

Google allowed yesterday a limited access to it’s Google Base homepage (Screenshot), and rumors started spreading around as to it’s purpose. Based on the above screenshot,

“Google Base is Google’s database into which you can add all types of content. We’ll host your content and make it searchable online for free.

Examples of items you can find in Google Base:

• Description of your party planning service
• Articles on current events from your website
• Listing of your used car for sale
• Database of protein structures

You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local.”

Then another screenshot had appeared which shed even more light as to it’s different purposes.

According to Google itself,

“This new tool will be introduced during the ‘Google Zeitgeist’05 Partner Forum’ to be held today at Google HQ in California.

We expect that ‘Google Purchases’ –the new micropayments service among users– will be also introduced as a complement to ‘Google Base’. “

So I guess we’ll know more later-on today?
