Google Jagger is Behind Us, Now What?

by Gilad on November 10th, 2005

The word on the street is that Jagger 3 is winding down and as after any major update, many are taking the time for a full damage control and review of the affects of the update on sites and ranking.

Most site operators report of further devaluation of reciprocal links (officially dead?), that is, many sites which highly benefited from that in the past have taken a deep dive down the ranks. This is great news for those white / gray hat seo’s, I am not sure what black hatters feel about the issue.

Another aspest which was given more attention following this update is site’s age. It is now a fact, the older your site, the better off you will be. I have a personal project site in a pretty competitive field. The site ranked #1 for over a year now, has moved down and switched places with a site 4 years older. In fact, out of the top 10 rankings, 70% are sites registered before the year 2000.

Some people have also noticed some UI changes following this update, but this may be part of their year-round experiments.

In general, this is just another proof that a long-term approach is required for Google success, and since Google pretty much ‘funnels’ the traffic these days, one should concentrate on setting up a quality site with quality and unique content to actually benefit from some link-love…
