Google Joins the Microsoft Beaters

by Gilad on July 4th, 2007

While Google is facing an antitrust issues of its own, it is fighting for an “official” spot at the Microsoft antitrust deliberations. What started with Google filing for an antitrust against Google for the invasive implementation of Microsoft’s desktop search and continued with Microsoft folding their objections and agreeing to settle, now turns into a “who has the bigger di@#$” type competition with Google seeking more beating on Microsoft.

Background on the Microsoft antitrust history:
* Back in 2002 Microsoft was accused of making it difficult for 3rd party search solutions to be implemented into their system. The accusations were settled.
* New accusations came afloat with the release of Vista which, apparently, makes integration very complicated.
* Google accuses of antitrust again.
* Microsoft settles again (June 19, 2007)
* The night before the judge was set to meet with the parties to discuss the quarterly report (June 25, 2007), Google made a filing to the court, asking to weigh in on the case.
* The judge pushes Google aside, and agreeing with Microsoft that Google is not a side in the suit.
* Google requests for an “opportunity to offer its opinions to the court.”

What’s left? For the judge to accept/reject Google’s request.
