Google Lands CNN.com Deal, Beats Yahoo
Google announced yesterday that they closed an exclusive deal to provide contextual advertising to be displayed on the U.S. news portion of CNN’s website. Google beat Yahoo to the deal which has been Yahoo’s since 2004 (when they took it away from Google). Yahoo still remains the provider of such services to CNN’s international edition.
“This is an important deal for Google because CNN.com has a lot of traffic and high quality content. The agreement provides an opportunity for our advertisers to target CNN.com and get high quality traffic for their ads,” said Google spokesman Brandon McCormick.
This is good news for Google as CNN traffic ranked 3rd last week among U.S. news sites with 3.56% (according to HitWise).
