Google Talk to launch: chat and VOIP client

by admin on August 24th, 2005

Google is set to launch Google Talk Wednesday.

Jordan Running at DownloadSquad has all the details and screen shots as well.

The key features are naturally chat and VOIP telephony, although there appears to be no support for a call out feature as yet. Download Squad reports that Google is chatting with Skype, AOL and Yahoo about interoperability and is also exploring options on the SIP network used by Project Gizmo.

It will be interesting to see how the chat with the others go given their current market leadership. Its the ultimate catch 22: ignore Google and be crushed or play with Google and probably be crushed anyway but still have some semblance of a chat/ voip business in 5 years time because all the people who don’t like Google can use your software to talk to the hundred of million of people who will be using Google Talk.
