Google Trends Adds “Daily Trend Watch”
Google’s trend measurement tool added “Today’s Hot Trends” section outline trends on a daily basis. This new feature allows viewing the changes in the particular trend over the past day including sample keywords and the time in which the trend was at peak.
When asked how they determine their “trends” Google mentioned that the ranking is an algorithm based which determines the certain trend, compared to time of the day and number of instances. The more “unnatural” the trend seems, the “hotter” the trend is.
The trends homepage offers the top 10 trends for the past day:
At the bottom of the top 10 there is a link to the top 100 trends page for the past day:
Lastly, the top 100 page allows users to change the date and review trends for the past week:
NOTE: The top “trend” for yesterday is tanzania national park, however, I do not recall, nor find any recent news mention of this park, so it is really unclear as to how exactly this algo works, but there seems to have been quite a few glitches in the past few days.
