Google vs. IE7
One of the benefits in having the majority of marketshare “owned” by you is that you can push other products that you own in order to raise profits. This is what Microsoft had decided to do by including MSN Search as the default search engine for their new browser IE7.
Google on their side could not help it but to start complaining, The NYT quotes Google’s Marissa Mayer:
“The market favors open choice for search, and companies should compete for users based on the quality of their search services … We don’t think it’s right for Microsoft to just set the default to MSN. We believe users should choose.”
Are they afraid? I am not sure. They are, after all, a major player in the financing of Mozilla Firefox, which is the choice of many users (over IE), and I cannot find a choice for MSN Search in Firefox. How ’bout them apples Google?
