Google’s P0rn & Racism in Brazil (isn’t Google’s Problem)

by Gilad on May 19th, 2006

A while back we reported about a Google being Google Sued Over Child P0rnography in the US. The same this had aparently happened for Google in Brazil, this it is due to it’s Okrut platform - Brazil’s largest online community.

Orkut has become a paradise for pedophiles, who solicit sex with childen and distribute pornographic material,”

And Google’s response in a typical Googlish style:

In a letter to prosecutors yesterday, Google said its Brazilian unit bears no responsibility for the content of Orkut, the biggest social networking service in Brazil with about 8 million Brazilian users. The unit’s lawyer, Durval de Noronha Goyos Jr., said all data on Orkut is hosted on servers in the U.S., which are managed by Google Inc. Any request for information from Google must be directed to the parent company, he wrote.

Hmm, well let’s see, I am in the US… Great, let’s start a child p0rnography site in Brazil. There must be a market, and we won’t be responsible to these poor kids being humiliated on camera. Why not, eh?

    Brazilian Pedophiles Using Google’s Orkut?…

From what I am reading, Google is hesitant about complying with international laws where it has no “physical presence” (in other words, servers within a nation’s borders).

Although I understand their fear of being controlled by foreign government…
