Jeeves goes back to basics
Ask Jeeves has launched its latest effort to drive traffic with a new feature designed to provide more immediate answers to inquiries.
Ask Jeeves will display a “Web Answer” to many of the requests its search engine processes. For instance, if someone enters “world’s largest lake” into Ask.com’s search box, the top result will include a snippet listing the Caspian Sea, including its size and location.

This is a great move by Jeeves. They know that people want to get direct answers to their questions. I just hope that more will start paying attention to the Q&A model. After all, keyword search is starting to get worse and worse. PageRank was good for a while, but it’s simply not sustainable.
It’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for Ask. Can they come from behind to claim the crown? Whether they will or they won’t, whoever is going to hold that position will innovate their way to #1. These add ons that the search players have been offering recetly are pretty uninspiring. Personalized Google search page? Ho-hum.
