Microsoft launches MSN Local Search

by admin on June 21st, 2005

Microsoft has unveiled a rival in the localized search market with MSN Local Search.

MSN Local Search delivers listings of local sites and a map that includes virtual pushpins indicating each for each location. At the time of writing the service was live and working, displaying maps for searches such as “Pizza in New York”

MSN Local Search gets its online maps from Microsoft’s MapPoint Web Service and aerial images from TerraServer-USA, which is one of the world’s largest online databases and is operated as a research project by Microsoft.
