Google Helps Advertisers With Their Keywords

Well, the giant of a company is not actually giving out keywords to its advertisers. That would be quite wrong. What Google is actually doing is it has just added a new tool which has been made available for its advertisers. This one would help them choose which keywords would a good one to bid on because they could see the number of people who search for them.

Google Adwords’ Trevor Claiborne, in a news item, mentioned in a company blog, “Now, when you use the Keyword Tool to search for relevant keywords to include in your keyword list, you’ll be able to see the approximate number of search queries matching your keywords that were performed on Google and the search network.”

With that kind of tool being added, I could just imagine how happy advertisers would be. See, all the data are all there. You just need to decide which one to bid on for yourself.

SEO vs. PPC: The Popularity Game

It has been said that SEO and PPC are two of the most important factors in making your site’s ranking go higher and also help your site get more traffic. Both should play quite balanced roles. However, in a recent report, it has been said that a research done found out that SEO is more popular as a topic compared to PPC. This study has been done just recently by Hitsearch, an SEO agency.

The study did use data from Google’s Google Trends tool to do this study. The company found out that in the last 12 months, SEO, used as a term, had been searched more compared to PPC. This certainly does show that search engine optimization has become more popular compared to PPC.

Now that we have tackled that, what can you now say about this? Does this go to show that we should be looking at SEO more instead of looking at both equally?

SEO and Non-profits

Honestly, SEO is a thriving business. Those who do know how to go about with SEO can really earn lots with the right clients. It is all about helping a group or company with a web site earn more while also earning more. But there are SEO companies which offer their services without asking for payment.

Take as an example SpotOn SEO. This company is based in Houston and it has recently announced that they would be offering their services to several non-profit organizations. The company would be working with such organizations to see how they would be able to boost the site’s ranking. They would also be offering services like link building web design, copywriting, as well as internet strategies. Now that is a good way to give back.

Said the company through a spokesperson, “Our services are designed to assist non-profits by allowing them to attract and engage their target audiences in new ways, thereby maximizing their fundraising and public relations opportunities.”

Things That You Need To Know About SEO (Part 3)

This should be the third installment of this series of posts. It is interesting to note that there are some truths to what the Web Professor is saying and there are some that are quite debatable. Anyhow, it’s his list and those are his opinions.

  • Google is not as smart as it seems.
  • Just because a search engineer is nice, smart, witty and reasonably honest doesn’t mean he isn’t your adversary.
  • Forums are good for getting clients. Help people out when you can for free and you’ll see what I mean.
  • What might have been true yesterday might not be true today.
  • Yahoo and MSN have traffic to send too
  • Don’t assume everyone knows what you discovered already when you study your stats. Save it for yourself.
  • Don’t underestimate how much your knowledge or programming skills are worth.
  • Read a book on marketing from a semi unbiased source. I prefer SCORE and the Small Business Association.
  • Remember its the world wide web and there are opportunities to be had in oversea’s markets.
  • Someone thinks you are an idiot.
  • Someone thinks you are a liar trying to fleece them.

Things That You Need To Know About SEO (Part 2)

Here’s the second part. As I have mentioned in my previous post, I would be sharing the entire list bit by bit. Any reactions on the whole deal would be welcome.

  • I’d rather spend time promoting my stuff than a clients. If I fail its my problem and at least I didn’t have to listen to my client
  • SEO is not a panacea for not having a product of your own.
  • Go to a conference its so much better discussing this stuff in person and honestly its more fun.
  • Forums are the suxors but you need to pick at least one to keep abreast of issues you may have missed.
  • Just because someone can argue well online doesn’t mean they know jack shit.
  • If you don’t have your own data to draw your own conclusions then you don’t know anything despite how much you read.
  • Don’t spend to much time arguing online. Its pointless. Spend that time proving or disproving your ideas for yourself.
  • If you want to make money with affiliate programs and your just starting out keep making sites. Make them big and small and in between but keep making them till your fingers bleed. Once you have a hundred then go back and see what is the most successful and then spend time on those.
  • The thing that is in the shortest supply online is creativity.
  • Don’t be afraid to be wrong and listen to the counsel of those who are honest.
  • Always try to find the successful mans networks, once you do don’t be an ass and out them just look and learn and if you feel like it warn them how you did it.

Things That You Need To Know About SEO (Part 1)

I came across a really interesting post and after reading the whole thing, I decided that it was worth sharing with you guys. See, this post is about the 73 things about SEO which has been penned by the Web Professor.

I’m going to be sharing the list bit by bit and I would like to hear reactions about what you may think about the list.

  • Search Engine Optimization is fairly straight forward there are no secrets.
  • Search Engine Optimization is marred by the fact anyone can discuss online and seem like an expert.
  • Online Marketing is where its at, and that should encompass SEO
  • The best blackhat stuff is not detectable by the search engines or people.
  • If you can’t program or pay someone to program you will be stuck using the same tools as everyone else.
  • Statistics and math are where its at. There are no fast answers in this business.

Does Your Content Match Your Keyword?

One factor that most SEO believe search engines look at is the relationship between your content and your keyword.   I remember in the old days when you can get away with writing content and just plugging in a keyword which is totally unrelated to the context of the page.  It doesn’t work anymore.

Google has been very successful with knowing what the overall theme of a certain web page is about.  In fact that is the cornerstone algorithm for their adsense program.   Google ads nowadays really match the content of the web page.   Do you think google doesn’t apply the same algorithm for matching your keywords with your content for organic search results?

I’ve posted about keywords in title, h1 tags, and body of the text in previous posts but one of the things to consider is that it has to be consistent with the overall theme of your content.  One  question you might ask yourself is, does your content support the ‘keyword’?   Does any of your paragraphs talk about something else not part of they keyword?

Example,  your keyword is “nike shoes”.   Do you also talk about “prom shoes”  or “leather shoes” in the same webpage?     If you catch yourself doing that,  then you might be hurting  your own ranking.

Just to give an idea on what to write about,  think of subcategory or subsets of your keyword.   In our example “nike shoes”  you might  talk about benefits of nike shoes,  costs of nike shoes,  different types of nike shoes, different categories of nike shoes (ie  nike basketball shoes, nike  tennis shoes..etc).

But of course don’t delve into much details of a subtopic.  It is best to create a new webpage for each of your subtopics.

So next time you create a content,  take a second look if your content matches your keyword?

Google Launches Affiliate Network

Google (NASDAQ: GOOG)  is rebranding Doubleclick Inc. as Google Affiliate Network .   So google is now taking on the Affiliate network industry and competes with affiliate network heavyweights such as ValueClick’s Commission Junction and LinkShare.

This move isn’t a surpise since google has been in the business for quite some time with its google adsense program which is based on  “cost-per-click” business model.   It’s just a matter of time they enter the “Cost-per-action and Cost-per-lead” business model offered by affiliate network.

I’ll definitely try this one out and see how it goes.

Has anyone tried this yet?  Your feedback is most welcome here  at the comments area.
