A new patent application filed by Google this week attempts to tie “clipped” (copied&pasted) URLs from both email and IM into an actual ranking algorithm. From the patent description “[a] universal distributed search system allows users to find and distribute search results (possibly including advertisements) to those with whom they communicate.”
