Yahoo Adds NOODP Tag Support
Yahoo had joined the pack this week and added support for the NOODP tag. This tag was originally introduced a while back by MSN who wanted to allow site owners the opportunity to ignore the ODP (DMOZ.org) descriptions and use it’s own. Google joined the pack shortly after since Google relies heavily on the ODP and now Yahoo does as well.
This is, however, still insufficient for Yahoo, as it has it’s own Yahoo directory which can currently not be ignored.
The tag’s syntax:
META NAME="Slurp" CONTENT="NOODP" - for Yahoo.
META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP" - for MSN and Google
On another note, Yahoo had anounced weather report Tuesday night, so if didn’t know it… now you know.
Update: Barry posted this morning about a new Yahoo initiative to implement a tag that’ll deliver Yahoo directory elimination. It is not yet implemented, but it is “in-the-works”.
