Yahoo Revamps it’s Map Service

by Gilad on November 4th, 2005

Yahoo has been working on the ‘next generation of Yahoo maps‘ and it is now out for the public. It looks good even though the service is still under beta.

From the press release:

New features include:

Improved Interactivity and Layout

– Multi-point routing (A to B to C) — Yahoo! is the only major U.S. mapping site that offers this valuable functionality. Convenient routing features such as drag and drop reordering, round-trip and reverse routes have also been added.

– A larger main map and new “mini-map” make it easier to navigate, pan, and zoom.

– Drag-and-drop points of interest and expandable turn-by-turn instructions offer a fully interactive interface.

Greater Personalization

– My Locations saves time by adding your most frequently referenced destinations. My Locations will auto complete addresses from previously entered locations including saved map locations, recent addresses and Yahoo! Address book.

– Customized Start Page automatically defaults to a user’s saved or recent location. Driving directions and traffic information are all one click away.

Local Search Integration

– Yahoo! Local is more tightly integrated with maps allowing consumers to seamlessly access rich content about points of interest while mapping. Users can look up information such as hotels, restaurants or event locations and map them effortlessly.

– Address-to-Business matching automatically and conveniently populates business names, phone number and star ratings as users input addresses.

– More prominent integration of exclusive Yahoo! features such as live traffic conditions and send-to-phone capabilities.
